  • Worktop restoration

    Worktop restoration

Sanding and oiling a worktop can be a considerable amount of work! It also means the kitchen can be out-of-action for a period while the oil cures and penetrates into the surface of the worktop. The process involves sanding or stripping any existing finish back to bare wood, refining the surface with finer grit sandpaper and applying a finish of your choice to the now unfinished worktop.

Although it might be more time consuming, it can sometimes be worth doing the work in stages so that some worktop area is always functional. Get in touch to discuss your needs and we can work on a timeline that suits you.

    Small repairs and patches

Blown plaster on a solid masonry wall

Before: the plaster has been damaged while placing a fixing into the solid wall.
After: A small patch has been careful blended into the existing wall, with a screw in the wall plug to make it easy to find once the new plaster dries so it’s easy to re-attach the curtain rail.

Patching plasterboard to access leak from below

Before: a slow leak was identified as coming from a radiator in the bathroom above.
I cut access panels beneath the radiator valves to allow investigation and repair – once a loose plumbing fitting was found it was quickly rectified.
The plaster was allowed to fully dry before being primed, taped and skimmed. I took care to blend the new plaster into the old.
After: once dry, the room was mist-coated, leaving an undetectable repair.

    Walls, rooms and larger projects

    Re-designing a retired fireplace

Before: a decommissioned back boiler left a small, unattractive fireplace, with an uneven wall and unattractive drop between the flooring and fireplace.
After: the original fireplace was completely removed, A new bespoke decorative hearth and mantel was made from an oak worktop, and a plasterboard box was created to fit, then blended seamlessly into the surrounding wall.

Re-surfacing a dividing wall between a kitchen and dining room

Before: plasterboard was attached to the existing timber framework.
The new plasterboard was skimmed, working around various nooks and service areas.
After: the job was finished with a white mist-coat, ready for new skirting boards and coving.
